Derartu Abate

Hi! I’m Derartu, and I serve full-time with Bethel Campus Fellowship (BCF) as a Ministry Administrator. In this role, I help manage the day-to-day operations of our Retreat Center, working alongside the administrative and events teams and our property manager. But more importantly, with the help of the Holy Spirit, I aim to partner with all members of BCF to advance the Gospel of Jesus Christ across college campuses and raise up faithful disciples.
My journey with BCF began in 2014 during my freshman year at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). I was searching for a Bible-focused campus fellowship, and the Lord led me to a Sisters’ Fellowship Bible Study. I’ll never forget how powerful that day was—the teaching was rooted in Scripture, and the presence of God was undeniable. I knew instantly that BCF was where I belonged.
Since then, I’ve remained committed to the ministry—becoming a member in 2014 and joining the executive board in 2015. Through BCF, the Lord has transformed my life in many ways, including freeing me from the fear of evangelism. Now, I’m honored to serve the same community that poured into me as a student.
